The department of Functional and Laboratory Diagnostics had been created in 30th of June 2017 at Ternopil University Hospital.
The head of department is MD, PhD. Marushchak M.I.
The purpose of creation of Functional and Laboratory Diagnostic Department is to introduce new methods of laboratory and functional diagnostics; use of knowledge about the etiology and pathogenic mechanisms in a particular case for clinical diagnostic, research and to choose appropriate medical treatment.
Major areas of scientific interest – modern diagnostic methods in cardiology, pulmonology, nephrology, allergology, neurophysiology.
THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS
Highly qualified teachers provide a high level of teaching education for students of:

· - Foreign Students’ Faculty
At the Department students study:
- Modern diagnostic capabilities of laboratory and functional investigation;
- Features of the preanalytical phase of laboratory investigation;
- Main principles of methods of functional diagnostics and laboratory investigation;
- Rules for the preparation of patients for the laboratory tests and functional methods;
- Performe basic biochemical tests;
- Interpret the results of ECG, spirometry and other functional tests;
- Interpret the results obtained by biochemical tests;
- Select the appropriate range of additional laboratory and functional tests and make diagnostic algorithms.
Training is provided in two languages:
- Ukrainian;
- English.

Education
In 2003 she has graduated on the Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Ya. Horbachevskiy . In 2003-2004 passed intership and finished her master degree with honors. Then started clinical specialization, graduated in 2006. In 2007 she passed specialization on “Clinical laboratory diagnostics” with the speciality of Clinical Laboratory doctor. In 2013 she passed specialization on “functional diagnostics” with the speciality of Functional Diagnostics doctor.
Work experience
Since September 2006 she has worked as a senior laboratory assistant at the Department of Internal Medicine and Phthisiatry of Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Ya. Horbachevskiy. Them from January 2007 as an assistant in Clinical Biochemistry Department. After reorganization she became assistant of the department of Clinical Laboratory Diagnosis. Since 2012 she became an associated professor of the same department. In June 2012 in connection with creation of the department of Functional Diagnostics and Clinical Pathophisiology she was promoted to head of department where she works till now.
Research Activities
In 2007 – PhD thesis on “ The role of chronic heart failure in the development of osteopathy and its treatment”, 14.01.02 – internal medicine (supervisor – prof. Andreychin S. M.)
2012 – doctoral dissertation “The pathogenesis of acute lung injury a violation oxidative, immuno – cytokinetic,, necrotic and apoptosis – mediated processes” 14.03.04 – Pathophisiology department (supervisor – prof. Bondarenko Yu. I.)

She graduated on Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Ya. Horbachevskiy speciality of “General Medicine” in 1997 with honors. From 1998 till 2002, trained in residency at the Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Ya. Horbachevskiy speciality “Internal Medicine”
Work experience
Since September 2002 she worked as an assistane in department of pathological physiology in Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Ya. Horbachevskiy. From December 2009 till February 2010, and from February 2011 to june 2012 – assistant professor in department of pathological physiology. From June 2012 – Associate Professor of functional diagnosis and clinical pathophysiology, doctor of functional diagnostics.
Research activities
In 2002 she defended her thesis on “ Syndrome of endogenous intoxication in chronic pyelonephritis without violation of azoto-excretory renal function and its correction in hospital stage of treatment” speciality “Internal Medicine” (supervisor – prof. O. Y. Bakalyuk)
Research interests
Diseases of the urinary system and their diagnosis, functional diagnostics of the cardiovascular system.

Education
In 2003 she has graduated on the I.Ya. Gorbachevsky Ternopil State Medical Academy, she has received a complete higher education in the specialty General Medicine. In 2010 she passed specialization on Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics at the D. Halytsky Lviv National Medical University. In 2014 she was certified at the Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, she was assigned a second qualification category in Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics.
Work experience
From 2003 till 2008 she worked as Assistant Professor at the Medical Chemistry Department in I. Ya. Gorbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University, from 2008 till 2009 – Assistant Professor of the Medical Biochemistry and Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics Department, and from 2009 till 2011 – Associate Professor of the same Department. On July 1, 2011 she was awarded the title of Associate Professor of the Medical Biochemistry and Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics Department. From 2011 till 2014 she worked as an Associated Professor of the Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics Department. From April 1, 2014 she was Professor of the Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics Department, from April 1, 2015 till June 30, 2017 she was Head of the Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics Department.

On October 25, 2007 she defended a dissertation for the degree of a Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD thesis) on „The state of protein metabolism in rats under acute alcoholic poisoning against the background of intoxication with cadmium and lead salts and ways of correcting its violations”, specialty 14.03.04 – pathological physiology.
On October 31, 2013 she defended a dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on „Pathogenetic aspects of hepatopulmonary syndrome (experimental research)”, specialty 14.03.04 – pathological physiology.

In 1982 he has graduated on the Ternopil State Medical Institute. He has studied in internship in the specialty Therapy (1982-1983). Worked as chief Physician of the Tilevsky District Hospital of Shumsky District (1983-1986).
Work experience
From 1986 he worked at the Ternopil Medical Institute: 1986-1998 – Senior Laboratory Assistant, Biochemistry Department, 1998-2003 – Associate Professor, Pharmacology Department, 2004 – Professor of the Medical Chemistry Department, Head of the Clinical Pharmacy Department, Head of the Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics Department, now he is Vice-Rector from scientific affairs, Professor of the Functional and Laboratory Diagnostics Department.
Research Activities
He defended his Ph.D thesis on the topic „The course of oxidative processes under conditions of toxic liver damage in an experiment” (1992) and a doctoral dissertation on the topic „Age features of oxidative processes under conditions of toxic liver damage in different etiologies and ways of their correction” (2003). In 2002 she has graduated on the I.Ya. Gorbachevsky Ternopil State Medical Academy, she has received a complete higher education in the speciality General Medicine. After acquiring higher education, he worked as an intern in a specialty Therapy of the Kremenets Central District Hospital. In 2008 she passed specialization on Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics at the D. Halytsky Lviv National Medical University.
Work Experience
From 2003 till 2008 she worked as a doctor-parasitologist at Desna Corporation. Since September, 2012 she has started to work as an Assistant Professor of the Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics Department. From 2008 till 2010 – a Junior Researcher at the Central Research Laboratory. From 2010 till 2011 she worked as a Senior Laboratory Assistant at the Medical Biochemistry and Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics Department, since 2011 – Head of the Scientific Research Laboratory. Since September 2012 she has been working as an Assistant Professor of the Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics Department.

On May 31, 2013 she defended a dissertation for the degree of a Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD thesis) on „Structural-functional features and dynamics of apoptotic-mediated liver factors in acute lung injury syndrome”, specialty 14.03.01 – normal anatomy.

2. Nanotechnology in modern medicine.
3. Active forms of oxygen, their role in the oxidation-prooxidant homeostasis of the organism.

Garian Maria Petrivna

Education
In 1962 she has graduated on the Kremenets Medical College, after in 1972 she has graduated Ternopil State Medical Institute. She has received a complete higher education in the specialyty General Medicine. From 1972 till 1975 she studied at the Postgraduate training of Ternopil State Medical Institute on the specialty Biochemistry at Biochemistry Department.
Work Experience
From 1962 till 1966 she worked at Paramedic and Obstetric Station (v. Vikno) and at the District Hospital (v. Beregitsa). Since 1975 she worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Hospital Therapy. From 1986 till 1989 she was in a foreign mission to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, where she worked as a doctor of emergency care.
Since 1989 ‒ Associate Professor of the Department of Hospital Therapy of the TSMU. From 1992 to 1999 – Vice-dean of the medical faculty of TSMU. For 5 years she was the director of thes Students Campus. From 2004 till 2012 she worked as an Associate Professor of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy. Now she is an Associate Professor of the Department of Functional and Laboratory Diagnostics.
Research Activities
She defended her Ph.D. thesis on the study of changes in water-electrolyte exchange at various stages of burn disease.

1. Peroxide oxidation of lipids in the lesion of the liver.
2. Current directions of biochemistry and clinical laboratory diagnostics.

After acquiring higher education, she worked as an intern in a specialty Therapy at the Ternopil Regional Hospital. From 2002 till 2005 she studied at the Postgraduate training of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University on the specialty Pathological Physiology. In 2017 she has passed specialization on Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics at the I. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University.

From December 2005 till December 2011 she worked as an Assistant Professor of the Department of Pathological Physiology. From December 2011 to August 2016 ‒ Associate Professor of the Department of Pathological Physiology. From June 2014 she is the Head of the Postgraduate, Clinical Residency and Postgraduate Education Department of the University. From September 1, 2016 – Associate Professor of the Department of Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics. From September 1, 2017 – Associate Professor of the Department of Functional and Laboratory Diagnostics.

On February 23, 2006 she defended a dissertation for the degree of a Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD thesis) on „Cholinergic regulation of the heart in immature rats with experimental hypothyroidism”, speciality 14.03.04 – pathological physiology (supervisor - Prof. V.V.Faifura).

After the intership till 2010 worked as a doctor – allerglogis, head of the advisory department at Ternopil State Medical University Diagnostic Center.
From 2009 to 2012 – Assistant Professor of Pathological Physiology department.
From 2013 to the present – Associated Professor of Functional Diagnosis and Clinical Pathophysiology Department, doctor of functional diagnostics.

In 2009 she defended her hesis on “peculiarities on allergic dermatosis at the base of CMV infection” (supervisor – prof. Andreychin M. A.). then awarded the scientific degree of candidate of medical science, 14.01.09 Clinical Allergology speciality.

Modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of allergic dermatoses, respiratory system diseases and osteoporosis.

Work experience
From 2005 till 2007 she worked as a doctor speciality “family medicine” in Ternopil regional hospital. From 2007 till 2009 she made intership at the department of “Internal Medicine No2”, where she started work as senior laborant till 2012. The same year – she passed her specialization courses on therapy and gastroenterology, and received certificate of specialist of gastroenterology.
From August 2012 she became assistant on department of “Functional Diagnosis and Clinical Pathophysiology of Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Ya. Horbachevskiy. Treating the patients at the University hospital.

December 22, 2014 defended her thesis on “Mechanisms of nerve cells cryopreserved influence on the functional size of the early period of craniocerebral trauma” with speciality of pathological physiology 14.03.04 (supervisor- prof. Hudima A. A.)

During the period of work on dissertation she participated in the scientific plan of department of functional diagnostics and pathophysiology of Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Ya. Horbachevskiy.
She conducted her own separate stage of research. In addition, she mastered many pathophysiological, pharmacological and biochemical analysis methods. During execution of her thesis, she attended lectures of professors with professional discipline and workshops, she raised her professional level and teaching skills.
Author of one man scientific articles and four abstracts sole. In collaboration she has 4 rticles and 14 abstracts.

Since 1974 – doctor-laborant at the Ternopil Regional Anti-tuberculosis Dispensary. From 1980 till 2011 ‒ Head of Clinical and Diagnostic Laboratory of the Ternopil Regional Anti-tuberculosis Dispensary. From 2011 till 2014 – the Head of the Scientific Clinical Laboratory TSMU. From 2015 – Assistant Professor of the Department of Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics. From 2017 – Assistant Professor of the Department of Functional and Laboratory Diagnostics.

Panasyuk Yaroslav Viktorovich
Education
In 2011 he has graduated I.Ya. Gorbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University, he has received a complete higher education in the speciality General Medicine. 2011-2013 – internship in the specialty Orthopedics and Traumatology on the basis of the Ternopil University Hospital and the Kovel Central District Hospital. In 2017 he passed specialization on Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics at the I. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University.
Work Experience
2013-2016 – the orthopedist-traumatologist of the Kovel Central District Hospital. From 2016 – Assistant Professor of the Department of Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics. From 2017 – Assistant Professor of the Department of Functional and Laboratory Diagnostics.

On 2017 he defended a dissertation for the degree of a Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD thesis) on „Pathogenetic submission of nanomaterial application for reproductive osteogenesis stimulation (experimental study)”, speciality 14.03.04 – pathological physiology (supervisor – Prof. M.M. Korda).
